SA Ambulance Service is a user-pays service. Unless you hold eligible Ambulance Cover, private health insurance with ambulance benefits, or qualify for another approved exemption, fees and charges may apply for ambulance attendance, treatment, and transport services.
Ambulance fees and charges can apply to:
- emergency ambulance attendance
- treatment provided by paramedics
- transport to hospital
- non-emergency patient transport
- treatment where transport is not required
- specialised retrieval and aeromedical services.
The total cost of ambulance services can vary depending on:
- the type of service provided
- the level of treatment required
- the distance travelled by ambulance
- whether the transport is emergency or non-emergency.
Emergency ambulance transport fees generally include both a call-out fee and a per kilometre charge.
In some circumstances, ambulance fees may not apply, including where:
- you hold a current and eligible Ambulance Cover membership
- another approved party accepts responsibility for payment
- the attendance relates to the initial response to a motor vehicle accident.
Fees and charges are subject to change.
